Hello, my name is Jade, I am 34 years old, and five years ago I joined Featherstone Follies. At the time, I was struggling with very low self-esteem and confidence. I knew I needed something to help build me back up and remind me of who I was.
Joining Burlesque With Paris has been one of the best experiences of my life. What started as a weekly class quickly became so much more. Week by week, I began to grow in confidence, believe in myself again, and achieve things I never thought I could.
Burlesque has helped me step outside my comfort zone, celebrate my body, and feel proud of what I can do. I have achieved so much through my weekly classes, and I am stronger and more confident now than I ever imagined I could be.
That transformation is exactly why I wanted to become an instructor. I want to help others who may be feeling the way I once did, to build their confidence, feel empowered, and realise just how capable and amazing they truly are.
Why did you become a Burlesque With Paris instructor? What is your favourite thing about being an instructor?
Watching the girls’ confidence grow is my favourite thing. I love meeting new people and teaching routines with all the different props.
How do you think burlesque helps boost a body-positive image?
It teaches everyone to love themselves for who they are and what they look like. It accepts people exactly as they are.
What is it about burlesque that you love so much?
I love meeting new people and performing, but mostly I love my Tuesday nights catching up with the ladies in my class. We dance together, laugh together, and support each other both in and outside of class.
Do you have any favourite burlesque performers?
Paris Chantilly and Khandie Khisses are my absolute favourite performers.
Do you feel that burlesque has impacted your life in any significant way?
I feel so much more confident in myself. I have met some amazing people, including my best friend, Paris Chantilly, who I am very close with. I feel more positive in life, and no matter what happens, my Tuesday nights are my weekly boost of positivity. A night with Featherstone Follies each week is all I need.
When was the best or most empowering moment for you in burlesque? Favourite moment?
My first solo performance. It was very scary, and my legs were shaking, but I never imagined I would ever have the confidence to perform solo. Now I have done it at every show, and I am incredibly proud of myself.
What is your motto in life?
Everybody deserves a spotlight.
Why did you choose your name and where did it come from?
I am a massive Queen fan, so Paris and I put our heads together to think of a name that incorporated that love. Bohemian Beauty was the name we came up with, and I absolutely love it.
If you could give one piece of advice to anyone taking up a burlesque class, what would it be?
Do not overthink it. Just do it.
