Introducing Violet Grace

Welcome to Burlesque With Paris, where our instructors are the heart and soul of everything we do. Here we would like to introduce you to our amazing instructors and explore why they are so dedicated to teaching the art of burlesque.

We are excited to introduce you to our bold stand-in instructor, Violet Grace. Stepping in for Hull Harlots, she brings brassy confidence, high energy, and unapologetic joy to every class she teaches. Let’s dive into what makes Violet Grace such a fierce force in the world of Burlesque With Paris.

Hello, my name is Melissa, I am 31 years old, and I have danced my whole life. Dance has always been a huge part of who I am, and burlesque was another style I wanted to try to see if it truly clicked for me.

Four years ago, I joined Hull Honeys with Burlesque With Paris, and I can honestly say I finally found my home. From the very first class, there was something special about it. The atmosphere, the creativity, and the incredible women around me made it feel different from anything I had experienced before.

I loved being part of Hull Honeys so much that three years ago I also joined Hull Harlots. Burlesque has allowed me to grow not just as a dancer, but as a woman. It has given me deeper confidence, helped me explore new performance styles, and surrounded me with a supportive community that feels like family.

Becoming an instructor felt like a natural next step. I want to help others discover that same spark, confidence, and sense of belonging that burlesque has given me.

Why did you become a Burlesque With Paris instructor? What is your favourite thing about being an instructor?

I love being able to help like-minded women fall in love with the art of burlesque. Watching them bloom with confidence and achieve things they never thought possible is incredible.

How do you think burlesque helps boost a body positive image?

Burlesque builds body confidence by putting performers in control of the spotlight. Instead of chasing narrow beauty standards, it celebrates individuality through sensuality and self-expression. Inspired by modern icons like Dita Von Teese, burlesque embraces all body types and transforms self-doubt into stage presence.

What is it about burlesque that you love so much?

I love burlesque because it is such a powerful form of self-expression. It allows me to tell a story through movement, style, and attitude. Whether bold and glamorous or cheeky and playful, burlesque reminds me that there is no single way to be confident or beautiful, only your own way, fully owned and unapologetic.

Do you have any favourite burlesque performers?

There are so many fantastic performers, but if I had to choose one, it would be Jezebel Express.

Do you feel that burlesque has impacted your life in any significant way?

Burlesque has changed my life in so many ways. The confidence I have gained carries into my everyday life. The friendships I have made are priceless. We truly have become a family who support one another unconditionally.

When was the best or most empowering moment for you in burlesque? Favourite moment?

Taking a group of ladies on stage with me and absolutely nailing the performance was unforgettable. My first show, performing All That Jazz, will always have a special place in my heart. Another favourite moment was hearing the laughs and cheers after the toaster reveal in my Pop Up Toaster performance.

What is your motto in life?

Dance like no one is watching, love like you will never be hurt, sing like nobody is listening, and live like it is heaven on earth.

Why did you choose your name and where did it come from?

I chose Grace as a nod to my ballet beginnings at the age of four. Violet is for my mum, who introduced me to dance and has supported me ever since. Violet is a shade of purple, which is also her favourite colour.

If you could give one piece of advice to anyone taking up a burlesque class, what would it be?

Go for it. If it is not for you, at least you will never look back and wonder what could have been. The hardest part is starting. Staying is the easy part.
