Introducing Salacious Silk
Welcome to Burlesque With Paris, where our instructors are the heart and soul of everything we do. Here we would like to introduce you to our amazing instructors and explore why they are so dedicated to teaching the art of burlesque.
We are excited to introduce you to our Sultry Stand-In Instructor, Salacious Silk. Stepping in for Doncaster Divas, she brings fluid elegance, soft sensuality, and quiet confidence to every class she leads. Let’s dive into what makes Salacious Silk such a mesmerising presence in the world of Burlesque With Paris.
Hello, my name is Sophie, I’m 29 years old, and I’ve been on and off the stage since I was a toddler. Performing has always been part of who I am, but before joining Burlesque With Paris, the last time I stepped onto the stage was before having my eldest child.
When I felt ready to return to performing, I knew I wanted something different, something that would challenge me in a new way. I attend bible classes, which I absolutely love, but I wanted to explore another side of myself, too. That’s when I found burlesque, and it was exactly what I was looking for.
Burlesque has allowed me to reconnect with the stage in a completely new way. It’s helped me rediscover my confidence, embrace my individuality, and express myself creatively again. Becoming part of Burlesque With Paris has given me the chance to grow not only as a performer, but as a person.
I’m so excited to continue this journey and to help others step into their confidence, try something new, and feel empowered in their own unique way.
Why did you become a Burlesque With Paris instructor? What is your favourite thing about being an instructor?
When Paris Chantilly asked me to be the Stand-in Instructor for Doncaster Divas, I said yes straight away. I didn’t need to think about it, I knew it was something I wanted to do.
I absolutely love the Doncaster Divas class. The ladies are such a fantastic group, and we have so much fun together. They make my job easy and so enjoyable. Whether I’m leading the class or dancing alongside them, it’s the perfect way to spend my Friday nights.
How do you think burlesque helps boost a body positive image?
Seeing dancers of all ages, shapes, and sizes proves just how fabulous we all are. Burlesque truly is for everyone. The variety of performers at our shows is incredible. We are all different, and every single one of us is a work of art.
What is it about burlesque that you love so much?
Glitter. Sequins. Feathers. Sparkle.
I love the costumes, the props, and the creativity. You can walk into a class for one hour and leave feeling completely transformed.
Do you have any favourite burlesque performers?
I absolutely love Khandie Khisses and Foo Foo La Belle.
Do you feel that burlesque has impacted your life in any significant way?
I hardly ever dress glamorously or wear makeup in everyday life, so having a reason to do so every six weeks and at shows feels amazing. It definitely adds some sparkle to my life.
When was the best or most empowering moment for you in burlesque? Favourite moment?
Performance-wise, my pirate routine was a favourite. My son even chose the song. I also won Star of the Class at that show.
I’ll never forget the cheers from the audience when I dropped to the floor during my “We’re Going to Ibiza” performance. That reaction was incredible.
What is your motto in life?
As She She La Play says: Never die wondering.
Why did you choose your name and where did it come from?
I knew I wanted my name to start with an S, but that was all I had! Paris Chantilly and She She La Play helped come up with Salacious Silk, and I instantly loved it. I love it so much, it’s now printed on my shorts and even my suitcase.
If you could give one piece of advice to anyone taking up a burlesque class, what would it be?
Do it.
If you don’t like it (which is unlikely), at least you’ll know.
