Introducing Harley Queen

Welcome to Burlesque With Paris, where our instructors are the heart and soul of everything we do. Here we would like to introduce you to our amazing instructors and explore why they are so dedicated to teaching the art of burlesque.

We are excited to introduce you to our dynamic Stand-In Instructor, Harley Queen. Stepping in for Selby Sirens, and Selby Starlets. She brings wit, wild energy, and unapologetic charisma to every class she teaches. Let’s dive into what makes Harley Queen such a show-stopping presence in the world of Burlesque With Paris.

Hello, my name is Giselle, I’m 53 years old, and I discovered my love for burlesque a few years ago when I started attending classes locally. I danced for just over a year before the classes sadly closed, and I missed it more than I ever expected.

In 2024, I found Burlesque With Paris, and it felt like coming home. I joined Selby Starlets first, and not long after, I became part of Selby Sirens too. I absolutely love being in both classes. They are my weekly go-to and something I genuinely look forward to.

Burlesque brings me joy, confidence, and a sense of belonging. It gives me time for myself, a space to express who I am, and the opportunity to keep growing. Being part of Burlesque With Paris has reignited that sparkle I missed so much, and I’m so grateful to have found it again.

Why did you become a Burlesque With Paris instructor? What is your favourite thing about being an instructor?

Becoming an instructor pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me build even more confidence interacting with people. I’m constantly learning skills that I now use in everyday life. It’s not just about dance, it’s about nurturing a team that supports one another and truly becomes like family. I have absolutely no regrets about saying yes.

How do you think burlesque helps boost a body positive image?

For me, it’s the diversity. No two bodies are the same, and burlesque celebrates all ages, shapes, sizes, and abilities. We create a safe space where you can learn to love the skin you’re in.

What is it about burlesque that you love so much?

I love the weekly classes, getting together, dancing, laughing, exploring different props and simply having fun. Watching other women overcome their anxieties and being part of such a supportive tribe is incredible.

Do you have any favourite burlesque performers?

Paris Chantilly for her elegance and beauty.
Khandie Khisses for her riotous, spectacular performances.
Evana De Lune for her classical, sensual style.

Do you feel that burlesque has impacted your life in any significant way?

It’s made me buy a whole new wardrobe! I’ve met amazing women who are now friends for life. I’ve stopped feeling ashamed of my “non-perfect” body and learned to embrace my imperfections. My confidence has returned little by little.

When was the best or most empowering moment for you in burlesque? Favourite moment?

Going on stage without a corset and not covering my belly was my biggest personal achievement. I had hidden it my whole life, not anymore.

Stepping onto a stage alone and hearing the audience cheer for you — just you — is indescribable.

And becoming the Stand-In Instructor for Selby Sirens was a huge achievement. When Paris and the class thank you, and you know you’ve helped someone, it truly is the best feeling.

What is your motto in life?

“F**k it.”

Why did you choose your name and where did it come from?

My husband chose it. I’m a biker, and one of the bikes I ride is a Harley. If I could, I’d have a garage full of them. My two passions in life are burlesque and bikes, so Harley Queen felt perfect.

If you could give one piece of advice to anyone taking up a burlesque class, what would it be?

Do it. It’s the best thing I ever did. It suits all fitness levels, all ages, all body types and abilities. It’s so much more than a dance class.
