Age 71

I was a dancer before being ill, and having moved back from living abroad and not knowing anyone I saw Paris’s advert for the Featherstone Follies class and decided to give it a try. Here I am now nearly a year later, I have done a boudoir photo shoot, I have performed in two shows and I got one of the class awards at the annual show in 2018. I have gained some lovely friends and couldn’t be happier with myself.

Why I Chose To Join Burlesque With Paris

I liked the idea of doing a burlesque class as it brings in dance and music together without being extreme. It can be adapted to all abilities and I was looking for something to help me regain my confidence, as well as improving my all-round strength and balance. It has given me everything I hoped it would which makes me feel better about myself all-round.

I really do enjoy being part of Featherstone Follies and was welcomed from day one with lots of support and friendship. We are all very diverse body shapes and ages but no one cares we all just get on with it and enjoy ourselves. It has been the same when I have taken part in activities with Paris’s other classes, promo days, shows, and the charity calendar. Everyone is just so supportive of each other and we all just get along although were all different ages and abilities.

Paris is a lovely instructor and I am so pleased I went along to her class, she’s just one of the girls and makes everyone feel good about themselves. I would be VERY disappointed if she stopped teaching and there were no more Featherstone Follies.

For any of you Ladies out there who are thinking about joining a burlesque class just do it, don’t think about it, do it, you would surprise yourself within weeks of starting and you would find it so rewarding. It’s a decision I have made that I will never regret.

My Burlesque Name

I never picked my name all the girls in the class picked it for me. I told them all the things I liked and the colours I liked and we decided it together at the end of class one night and I have stuck with it ever since. It has made my name special for me as it was picked by all of us in Featherstone Follies together.

Class Routines

My favourite thing about my class is the support and friendship we all have for each other, it’s so lovely to be part of the class that I am in. I enjoy learning all the different routines and dancing with all the different props but I have to say my favorite prop is the ostrich fans. I feel so elegant when I am dancing with them. My favourite class routine so far is when we choreographed Cell Block Tango for the annual show, I got a lead part and was able to assume a character and not just any character I was able to assume a lady killer character which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Burlesque With Paris Shows

I have enjoyed taking part in the shows. I have performed twice as a group with Featherstone Follies and have also just performed solo for the first time in March this year. I feel so NERVOUS before I perform but all the girls are so supportive it carries me through it. My favourite routine to perform to was the class routine to Cell Block Tango, I really enjoyed learning it in class as well as taking it on stage to perform it.

My Most Empowering Moment

My most empowering moment was performing on stage to Cell Block Tango. I felt fabulous up there on stage performing my lady killer character and the audience loved it which gave me a nice feeling of accomplishment which I found very rewarding.

My Most Favourite Thing About Burlesque With Paris

As well as meeting all the lovely ladies that I have, it is the camaraderie which is one of my favorite things. You simply won’t find it anywhere else but I also like the fact I feel young again while ever I am performing.
