Happy 2nd Anniversary to my wonderful Featherstone Follies. What an unforgettable year it has been, filled with laughter, creativity, courage, and some truly magical performances. As we celebrate this milestone, it feels only right to reflect on the incredible moments we have shared and the growth we have experienced together. Every rehearsal, every reveal, and every cheer from the audience has been part of a journey built on empowerment, trust, and a shared love of burlesque. Thank you to each and every fabulous Follie for being part of this adventure. Here’s to many more sparkling years ahead.

Celebrating Our Burlesque Ball Highlights

One of the standout moments of our second year was undoubtedly the Burlesque Ball Show on the 9th of November 2019 at Drax Social Club. With 240 guests filling the room, the atmosphere was electric from start to finish. Featherstone Follies took to the stage with confidence and flair, showcasing class routines, small group performances, and powerful solo acts that captivated the audience. The applause, cheers, and energy in the room were a true reflection of the hard work and dedication poured into every performance.

This evening was far more than a show. It was a celebration of personal milestones, artistic bravery, and the collective journey we had taken as a class. Each performer stepped into the spotlight not just to entertain, but to celebrate how far they had come. The Burlesque Ball remains a shining reminder of the magic that happens when passion, commitment, and community come together.

A Year of Dazzling Routines and Props

Throughout the year, the Featherstone Follies fully embraced the richness of burlesque, exploring a variety of routines that challenged both confidence and creativity. The sensual elegance of “I Just Want To Make Love To You” introduced the art of working with boas, teaching tease, control, and classic burlesque storytelling. Ostrich fans took centre stage in “Feeling Good,” allowing performers to master the balance between mystery and reveal, a cornerstone of fan dance.

The year also included powerful no-prop routines such as “Cell Block Tango” and the festive favourite “Santa Baby,” where strength, character, and stage presence took priority. For the Burlesque Ball, the Follies brought bold energy to “Bump and Grinds,” combining gloves and boas in a show-stopping routine. Playful storytelling and attitude shone through in “But I Am A Good Girl,” where gloves, skirts, and chairs added a theatrical edge that audiences adored. Each routine added depth to the group’s growing repertoire and highlighted the versatility of every performer.

Overcoming Challenges and the Lockdown Period

The sudden onset of lockdown on the 17th of March brought unexpected challenges and meant temporarily stepping away from our beloved studio space. Despite the uncertainty, this period revealed the true strength and resilience of the Featherstone Follies. Classes moved online, and living rooms became stages as we found new ways to stay connected, creative, and supportive of one another.

Although physically apart, the sense of community only grew stronger. Online sessions were filled with laughter, encouragement, and shared determination to keep the burlesque spirit alive. This time reminded us that burlesque is more than performance. It is connection, confidence, and joy, especially when it is needed most. Through adaptability and togetherness, the Featherstone Follies proved that even in challenging times, sparkle always finds a way.
