Dance, Dedication and Daring to Be Different

Celebrating four sensational years, the Selby Sirens have carved out a bold and beautiful space within the Burlesque With Paris community.

What began as a spark of curiosity has grown into a confident, creative, and deeply connected class, united by a shared love of burlesque and self-expression. Over the past four years, the Selby Sirens have embraced challenge, celebrated individuality, and supported one another through every step of their journey. Where the Sirens Began

When the Selby Sirens first stepped into the studio in 2019, the atmosphere was charged with excitement, nerves, and possibility. Each dancer arrived with her own story, but all were united by a desire to explore confidence, creativity, and the transformative power of burlesque.

From the very beginning, classes were about more than learning choreography. Alongside movement and technique, the Sirens were encouraged to embrace body confidence, storytelling, and emotional expression. Early routines introduced playful props such as gloves and boas, alongside the seductive allure of chair work, allowing each dancer to begin discovering her own burlesque voice.

Just as importantly, a strong sense of community formed almost instantly. Every dancer was welcomed not simply as a student, but as part of a growing family. Support, encouragement, and shared celebration became the foundation on which the Selby Sirens were built, creating a space where confidence could flourish and personal growth was always celebrated.

Returning Stronger Than Ever

The reopening of Selby Sirens in June 2021 marked a powerful and emotional turning point. Stepping back into the studio after time apart was more than a return to classes, it was a reaffirmation of connection, resilience, and shared passion.

The energy was electric as familiar faces reunited and new dancers joined the fold. Classes quickly found their rhythm once again, blending fresh routines with much loved favourites. Elegant ostrich fans, playful trilby hats, flowing skirts, and expressive chair work returned to the studio, reigniting creativity and confidence.

The return to in person classes restored something irreplaceable. Shared laughter, immediate encouragement, and the collective thrill of movement in the same space strengthened bonds and renewed purpose. This period became a reminder of why Selby Sirens exists, as a place of trust, empowerment, and mutual respect.

A Year of Routines, Props and Performance Growth

Over the course of their fourth year, the Selby Sirens explored a rich and exciting selection of burlesque routines, each one carefully chosen to build confidence, versatility, and performance quality.

The year opened with classic bump and grind foundations through Bump and Grinds, using gloves and boas to develop tease, timing, and musicality. This was followed by But I Am A Good Girl, incorporating gloves, skirts, and chair work, allowing the Sirens to experiment with playful character, storytelling, and expressive striptease.

Elegance and control were introduced with Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps, where ostrich fans became a key focus, encouraging refined movement and the art of conceal and reveal. Fan technique continued to develop with Feeling Good, also using ostrich fans, giving the dancers space to explore drama, pacing, and emotional expression within their performance.

Props played a strong role throughout the year, with Umbrella introducing umbrellas for theatrical interaction and playful visual moments. Character driven style came to the forefront with That Man, featuring trilby hats, encouraging sharp lines, attitude, and confident stage presence.

Festive fun arrived with Santa Baby, a routine focused purely on performance quality and personality without props, before vintage showgirl glamour returned in All That Jazz, using trilby hats and fringe skirts to capture classic jazz age styling and ensemble movement.

Rhythm and musical interpretation were explored through Back In Time, featuring gypsy coin skirts that highlighted hip work and dynamic movement. The Sirens then embraced deeper theatricality with Shivas Regal, incorporating bump skirts and gloves to develop character, control, and confident tease.

Preparation for the Burlesque Ball brought show-stopping group routines into focus. The Sirens worked on Bump and Grinds as a polished show routine using gloves and boas, followed by Pink Panther and Big Spender, featuring gloves and trilby hats, showcasing strong ensemble work and refined stage presence.

The year closed on a festive and elegant note with It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, returning to ostrich fans to deliver graceful, seasonal performances filled with charm and polish.

Each routine learned throughout the year contributed to the Selby Sirens’ growth as confident, expressive performers, strengthening their technique, creativity, and connection to the art of burlesque.
