My Life Since Burlesque - Ruby Starr

Burlesque Ball - 11th November 2023

Hull Harlots - Ruby Starr

My Moto In Life - Shoot for the moon, because even if you miss, you’ll land amongst the stars.

Age 39

I wanted to learn something new while also learning how to be sexy. I hoped burlesque would help me learn to love my body exactly the way it is, and it really has.

Why I Chose To Join Burlesque With Paris

I wanted to try something different. I’ve always loved dancing, but burlesque was definitely out of my comfort zone. I saw the Facebook advert and instantly thought, This is it! and that was that.

Burlesque celebrates women’s bodies collectively, not just the slim and petite ones. It has given me so much more self-confidence and proved to me that you don’t need to be slim to be sexy.

Coming to class has changed me. I’m much more confident in my own skin now. I’ve always been fairly confident with who I am on the inside, but now I feel confident on the outside too.

For any of you Ladies out there who are thinking about joining a burlesque class… Just do it!! It’s better to regret the things you’ve tried than the things you didn’t.

My Burlesque Name

The Revelry Of Tease - 25th March 2023

I chose Ruby because of my red hair, and Starr because I wanted to shine.

Class Routines

My favourite thing about my class is the fun we have together. They really are a fab bunch of ladies. My favourite song to perform to is That Man, 100%. It’s my favourite routine because it’s upbeat, bouncy, and I just loved the choreography. It fit the music perfectly.

My favourite prop is the boa. I’ve always associated boas with burlesque, so getting to use them is great fun.

My worst prop is ostrich fans. They hurt my hands, and I feel really clumsy using them.

Tina (Paris) is fab, down to earth, funny, approachable, and she knows exactly how to get the best out of all of us.

Burlesque With Paris Shows

I absolutely love the shows. It’s always a good night and everyone is so encouraging and supportive. Before a show I feel nervous, but excited too.

My favourite thing about performing is the buzz after coming off stage and the support from Tina and all the other ladies, even the ones who aren’t in my class. The audience is brilliant as well.

My Most Empowering Moment

Being on stage at the Burlesque Ball was my most empowering moment. The adrenaline rush was incredible. I never thought I’d be able to remove my bra on stage… and now I can’t wait to do it again. Such a buzz.

My Most Favourite Thing About Burlesque With Paris

Learning all the routines with all the different props. Definitely the friendships and camaraderie with Tina and the rest of the group. I honestly love them all. Joining class has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.
