It’s been an exhilarating journey for the Selby Sirens as they mark their sixth anniversary. Throughout these vibrant years, they have become a central part of the Burlesque With Paris community, enchanting audiences with their unique flair and cohesion. The camaraderie within the troupe has always shone through, making each class and performance a joyous celebration of burlesque artistry.

A Year Of Unforgettable Routines…

Throughout the year, our Selby Sirens have showcased an array of mesmerising dance routines, each bringing its own unique charm to our classes. Term 1 began with 'Cover Me In Sunshine,' where the elegance of silk veil fans added a touch of ethereal beauty. In Term 2, we embraced the seductive allure of 'Love For Sale,' with umbrellas lending an intriguing twist to the performance. Term 3 saw our sirens donning shimmering sequin skirts and gloves for the vibrant 'Showtime Hustle,' a routine that sparkled with every move.

As we moved into Term 4, the playful and flirtatious 'Feeling Good' introduced boas, which added a dynamic element to the routine. Term 5’s 'Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps' highlighted the sophistication of ostrich fans, allowing our dancers to express themselves with grace and poise. Term 6 was all about the timeless glamour of 'Putting On The Ritz,' a classic number that resonated with elegance and style.

Term 7 was particularly special, featuring two distinctive show routines. The first, 'Sway,' saw our sirens return to the silk veil fans, creating a performance that was both captivating and graceful. The second routine, 'I Can't Help Falling In Love With You,' combined the elegance of ostrich fans and gloves with a stunning rose petal pour, making it a standout performance.

The year concluded on a festive note with Term 8's "Holly Jolly Christmas," using gloves and Santa hats to spread holiday cheer.

Each term has brought its own set of challenges and triumphs, with our sirens continuously pushing the boundaries of their creativity and skill. Their dedication to mastering these routines is truly commendable, making each performance a testament to their hard work and passion for burlesque.

New Venue With Fresh Opportunities…

This year has seen a significant shift for our classes as we transitioned to Selby Community Centre. The move has provided us with a larger space that accommodates our growing numbers, and the improved parking facilities have been a welcome convenience for everyone. The new venue has truly elevated our sessions, offering a more spacious and comfortable environment that enhances the overall experience.

The change in venue has allowed our Selby Sirens to flourish in ways we hadn't anticipated. With more room to move, our dancers have been able to push the boundaries of their routines, exploring new movements and techniques that were previously limited by space constraints. This freedom has not only improved individual performances but has also fostered a greater sense of unity and collaboration within the group.

The benefits of our new venue extend beyond the physical space. Selby Community Centre's central location has made it more accessible for a wider range of people, encouraging diversity and inclusivity within our group. This accessibility has also allowed us to reach out to the local community more effectively, creating stronger ties and greater support for our endeavours.

The 11th of May 2024 was a date marked with splendour and excitement as the Selby Sirens took to the stage for 'The Revelry Of Tease' show at Doncaster Little Theatre. The evening was an extraordinary display of talent, with each performance embodying the essence of burlesque. Cherry Dynamite's solo act, 'The Man', was a captivating blend of charisma and flair, leaving the audience spellbound. Meanwhile, Lola Sparkles brought an enchanting energy to her performance of 'I Should Be So Lucky', showcasing her impeccable timing and expressive movement.

The theatre was abuzz with anticipation as the curtain rose, and the magic of the evening quickly unfolded. The 2024 Burlesque Ball on the 16th of November at Doncaster Little Theatre was truly a night to remember. Our Selby Sirens delivered breathtaking performances that left the audience in awe. One of the standout moments was the class routine to 'Sway' by Pussycat Dolls, featuring the graceful use of silk veil fans. Another memorable act was 'I Can't Help Falling In Love With You' by Hayley Reinhart, which incorporated ostrich fans, gloves, and a stunning rose petal pour. This particular performance was so captivating that it won the award for best class performance of the night.

Solo acts and duets added layers of depth and variety to the evening. Pink Champagne's powerful take on "World On Fire" by Dolly Parton set the stage alight. Bella Diamond and Pixie Dust brought a dynamic energy with their mix of "I Want To Break Free" and "Man I Feel Like A Woman," creating a lively and engaging performance. Miss Mona delivered a compelling "I Wanna Be Your Slave," showcasing her unique style and flair.

Her performances throughout the year have been nothing short of stellar, demonstrating her remarkable talent and commitment. Harley Queen earned the title of Miss Dedicated 2024, a fitting recognition of her unwavering passion and consistent effort. Vanilla Silk, whose journey of growth has been inspiring, was honored with the Miss Most Improved 2024 award. The Selby Sirens also celebrated their collective achievements, with the troupe’s performance of "I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You" winning the Best Class Performance 2024. This routine, marked by its elegance and emotional depth, highlighted the ensemble's exceptional choreography and synchronisation. On the solo front, Lola Sparkles was a double award winner. She captivated audiences with her enchanting performances, earning her the title of Best Solo Performance 2024.
