Our Magnificent Burlesque Props...

Props are a bit part of burlesque, love them or hate them there is no avoiding them. Personally, I love burlesque props I think they bring a whole new life to a performance. Don’t get me wrong, they are not easy and certainly have a mind of their own, however, if you want to add the wow factor to any performance props are the way to do it and they also give you something to interact with no matter how enthusiastic your audience are.

The one thing Burlesque With Paris has is lots of props… we have everything you can think of and imagine from props to dance with to a variety of props you can wear.

Here are the top five of our props that our students enjoy dancing with…

1. Fans

Fans are a classic prop and one many people instantly think of when they hear burlesque. Whilst many people will picture gorgeous giant ostrich feather fans did you know they come in all sizes, styles and colours? You can get small feather fans perfect for adding a touch of glamour to any goddess act, lace fans that suit a sultry slow routine, silk fans that suit a dramatic elegant routine, and even sequin fans if you want a disco feel. Many fans are very easily available and are very versatile so can suit all different dance styles and fans are a prop that can be used by anyone.

2. Gloves

If you want to learn how to perform a fantastic strip tease then gloves are a great way to start. Removing gloves or glove peels as they are also known is a perfect way to get your audience excited for what’s to come, but without revealing too much. Even though you are only revealing your hands and arms if you are using long gloves, glove peels can be extremely sexy. There are limitless ways to take a glove off including with your fingers (pull), teeth (bite), with your feet and even with your thighs (trap). Gloves are also a good choice because you can buy gloves in virtually any style you can think of, they are inexpensive and very easy to get a hold of. They can also be glammed up too by adding those little extras… rhinestones, feathers, frills and anything sparkly that you can think of.

3. Boa

The boa is another classic burlesque prop used by dances across the globe. Whilst feather boas are the standard boa, you can also get chiffon or organza boas too. Boas are a big prop so you have a lot to work with and they are a versatile prop that you can do almost anything with. You can thread them, swing them, wrap them around you, grind on them, conceal and reveal with them and so much more… Boas are also pretty versatile when it comes to size. You can get thinner boas that are easier to work with and perfect for beginners or you can get massive, voluminous boas which can cover your body when you need to so you can only show the audience what you want to.

4. Chair

Possibly the easiest prop to get a hold of and there is so much you can do with it. Chairs are another prop that can suit many different styles. They are brilliant for a real sexy number as well as being a perfect aid to a flexy, trick-filled routine. They are a fabulous prop for creating leg lines or if you want to drape yourself over something and hold a glamorous pose. Although they are a good prop to use dancing with chairs takes practice and patience.

5. Floggers

Floggers are a prop that brings out the naughty side in everyone. They can be used in a variety of ways and would be fabulous in sexy seductive routine, a suggestive tongue-in-cheek routine, or even a full-on dominatrix routine where you want to command attention. Floggers are also pretty versatile when it comes to size, they are inexpensive and very easy to get a hold of.
