Welcome to the 5th anniversary celebration of Selby Sirens, where burlesque meets glamour and sass! Founded by the fabulous Paris Chantilly, Burlesque With Paris, Selby Sirens has been a hub of creativity and empowerment for five fabulous years. Let's dive into the dazzling world of burlesque with Selby Sirens and celebrate the journey of our Sassy Sirens.
Term 7 - It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
A Year of Dazzling Routines…
This year, our sassy sirens have truly outshone themselves, mastering a diverse array of routines that span the breadth of the burlesque spectrum. With each term bringing a new theme and an opportunity to explore different facets of burlesque, our dancers have demonstrated unparalleled versatility and passion.
In the first term, the sirens delved into the world of Classic Burlesque, embracing the enchanting 'I Put A Spell On You', where gloves and boas became tools of their captivating charm. This was followed by an invigorating plunge into Bump and Grind Burlesque with 'Fire In My Head', where gloves and capes added a mysterious allure to their movements.
As the seasons changed, so did the themes of our routines. The third term saw the sirens flirt with Feather Fan Burlesque, using ostrich fans in a routine titled 'Smash' to create mesmerising silhouettes that enthralled all who watched. The transition into 'Welcome To Burlesque' and 'All That Jazz' allowed our dancers to pay homage to Classic and Broadway Burlesque, respectively, showcasing not just their ability to captivate with trilby hats and fringe skirts but also their skill in embodying the spirit of these genres.
The energy within the group was palpable as we ventured into Neo Burlesque with 'Hot In Herre', a routine that paired bump skirts with gloves for a modern twist on traditional burlesque, demonstrating the fluidity and adaptability of our sirens. Continuing with the Classic Burlesque theme, 'Fever' allowed the dancers to seduce the audience once again with gloves and sequin skirts, reaffirming their prowess in the art form.
Closing the year with a nod to the festive season, 'It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas' brought out the opulence of ostrich fans once more, wrapping up our year of dazzling performances with a routine that sparkled with the joy and excitement of the holidays.
Through each term, the Selby Sirens have not only expanded their repertoire but have also woven a rich tapestry of artistry and friendship. Their commitment to exploring the vastness of burlesque has not only enhanced their skills but has also enriched the lives of all who have had the pleasure of witnessing their growth. On the 25th of March 2023, we hosted The Revelry Of Tease Show and the spotlight of the evening undoubtedly shone on the Sassy Sirens. Heather Ann Lace, Delicious Denise, Bubblez Byzance, Amethyst Allure, and Emerald Divine graced the stage, each presenting their own signature routines that enthralled the assembly. These illustrious performers, with their distinctive styles and infectious enthusiasm, provided a spectacle of burlesque artistry that was both diverse and captivating. Their performances seamlessly blended elements of traditional burlesque with innovative interpretations, showcasing the evolution and breadth of the art form. The audience was treated to a visual feast, with each Siren demonstrating not just impeccable dance skills but also the ability to tell a story and evoke emotion through their act. The Selby Sirens, a beacon of talent and charisma, delivered two enthralling group routines set to the rhythms of 'Fever' and 'Hot In Herre', each movement and pose a testament to their collective artistry and passion for burlesque. April Lilly was bestowed with the title of Star Of The Class 2023, a reflection of her exceptional talent and unwavering dedication to the art of burlesque. Similarly, Lil-bit O’Booty was recognised as Miss Dedicated 2023. Her name stands as a testament to her dedication and passion for burlesque, marking her out as a performer who has shown remarkable growth and determination over the year. These accolades are not just awards, they are a recognition of the journey, the hard work, and the perseverance that April Lilly and Lil-bit O’Booty have demonstrated.
